hatred_of_the_flesh was made over the course of three days, it should be looked at as less a piece of purely writing but as an art piece that draws upon my earlier writing, some which remains unreleased currently. But it should also be seen as a response to someone I know, but also a response to a worrying trend that I am seeing.
It can only be described as a desire to place all phenomenon into a single system. but also this lust for this single system to have a stricter control, a single Machine-Beast is taking shape, this isn’t Capitalism, it is something else, but what is yet to be seen. Parts of it have been described but I do not think it has been quite grasped.
No no that is something else.
It is a return of political lesbianism but also the birth of something else. The community I speak of is not a community in the actual sense, it is an imagined one that lays out and charts the flesh and does these terrible things. The problem with this piece is that I cannot explain it, it is created in an artist’s frenzy. I am an artist, not a philosopher. And artists never understand their own art, philosophers and artists can be wrong about their work, but artists more so. So I cannot explain what I meant by any of this, it was created by the spirit of art. Below is a cleaned up transcript of the writing of hatred_of_the_flesh.
We have to ask if there is a hatred of the flesh; that is to say a hate of the other in the same space in the world of identity. What sort of power does identity have over a subject, an identity is a moving environment that we place our very soul into which provides a stability to the user of the identity. Hyperspeed brings all worlds together, there is a thought that all worlds should be like ours, that all space must allow smooth flow, an identity therefore is thought of as something that must be singular, a tower of the same, we have flattened out identity, its soul.
Why have we done this, why have we decided that we must smooth out life in this fashion? Does the difference in how we define ourselves threaten the other? We do not think that the thought that stability will be found in making the space of an identity smooth and uniform is correct, a desire to simplify the world is one of the fearful masses, power over identity is power over the soul. We do say flesh for it is flesh of a sort, flesh of the machine, community is a machine, perhaps a foul one. the human is “thoroughly subjected to the order of the machinery”1. Why must the human be subject to this entire machine? We find this community machine a disgusting thing, foul mold. It turns all parts into the same. All of this in the name of keeping it stable, why do we not allow a whole number of these machines to run all at once? Do we fear a virtual machine escape type of event? There is not just one machine world of “woman” but as many as there are those who call themselves women. After all “gender is long dead and we are merely waiting on the news of its passing”.
The truth is that the stable is dead! We do not think there is any fixed place, the world is fluidform now. Water has killed all. The promise of a stable place is one that The INSIDE uses as control. Machine dogs tearing at each other and killing themselves. Taking away the identity of another person is foul and serves only as control. We see this with queerness, the trans person who declares that their experience is the only true one does nothing but harm, it is control over the soul. Crying out that there is a single correct reality is a horrid thing, to say you are not the thing you say you are is a crime, it is placing your will onto someone else, for thousands of years we have had our soul, our movement, our identity controlled by others, by some prince, by some king, why must we place ourselves out of our soul being defined as a worker of the land only to find that some forsaken machine wishes us to give it control, what is a community! Show me this thing you speak of!
We should have an entire universe of experience. Someone using an identity that is different than how you use it does not void how you use it. The idea we must have a solid definition of a label is to deny the fact that the soul is a thing that refuses to be pinned down or held in place, it is to view something that is magic with a view of science, it is to place the soul into a system of pipes and rooms and that kills it. The murder of the soul, what a tragedy indeed. Again we say that those who use an identity never use it in the same way as anyone else does.
To say you must is to enact a dictatorship of the label, to make all be subjects of a beast that Capitalism will quickly take control of, capitalism will use label power to control labor power. The policing of queer identity is against queerness, queerness is a mode of revolt, a mode, method, and expression against that which is deemed as the only method. Queerness is a mess, it is something that one cannot make sense of, it is to be unknowable, to be that which is outside the world that is known, it is break out of what we call “male” or ”female” it is to be something else, a gay man is not a man in the old manner of speech, he is not a man because he strays from Vitruvian man, he is not a man because he is not filled with the lust for women like the other men. he tests what it means to be a man. It is said that you cannot cross the borders of gender yet queerness shows that it is very possible indeed to do so, queerness is an attack on that-which-is.
Queerness is not an identity, it goes beyond that, it is located in the air, in the action, it is simply put, a weapon against that which is considered “decent” or “understandable”. “if we were in total agreement this would be meaningless”2 would be a way to put it, that is to say, we make a new thing just by having such disagreements about such things, by saying “we disagree with this that you say must be” queerness is a constant disagreement with the “that-which-is” of the world. By questioning what is said to exist. Queerness is a revolt against the idea that there is one world, that everything can be plugged into a single machine with precise definitions. To say “there is only one way that this identity works, there is a single experience that exists and others endanger my stability by having a forest of delights of difference” is a foul thing to say, it is to hate the queer flesh.
Part 2) the hatred of the queer flesh is a hatred of what can be called a type of magical art, a system to understand what cannot be seen with science alone. Philosophy, religion, art, all these things have an element of magic in them. Queerness is as a friend of mine put it "i feel something innately, therefore it is”3 no one is able to prove queerness in the way one proves the concentration of a solute in a solution. Queerness is not located on a chart or table. Queerness is not solid, it shifts and changes, a snake who refuses to sit still. Queerness asks us, should the “that-which-is” exist? But moreover queerness is magic. One who has taken their first dose of HRT can not deny the fact that there is something that happens that words cannot state. The divine is located in the moment one lets the chemical enact a moment of change of perception with the first dose, all to say that HRT is the Kiddush cup of the queer magic, it facilitates the change from a state of pydru to a state of enargeia, a bright unbearable reality.
To state that HRT is merely medical is to state that the world is shallow, it is to lie to yourself. To make a taxonomy of queerness is to deny movement; movement is the most fundamental agent, the strophalos and the model of the atom both sense this movement, they reflect each other in a manner. queerness refuses to settle down, it is a fire that dances in between worlds. Queerness is movement taken to its peak, but not a reactionary movement but one that creates and flies, it is the impossible, we can not police this, because it would destroy the thing that can destroy the pydru of the world, the rot. there are billions of queeralities to be found, and none of them destroy any others, they exist and change, there are more queeralities than words of the divine4, they are chemical, they react, bond, interact, they are beautiful unique things that exist in what first seems contradictory or might even be contradictory, a wonderful world of these strange things, a soul cannot be seen in the lab.
We need to understand that the limitation of pure movement, of queerness kills it, “I do not understand this” good! That is a queerness of the purest sort! It is a wonderful thing, it looks at you and says “what is?”, flesh cannot love the same type of flesh? GO FUCK YOURSELF! yes it can! Flesh cannot turn into another type of flesh? yes it can! Many souls cannot be in the same flesh? Yes it can, we see it! The queer flesh is messy, it rebels against an easy understanding.
I kiss my love on faer lips in the early morning, law nel the hateful flesh tear me away from fae, a light kiss, that is all that we need, chemical-magical reaction.
“identity is a game, stop making up rules that aren’t fun.”5 as a wise sage once said.
from my friend mari, mari’s wider definition of queerness is “in part a rejection of the notion that existence is ordered in a way that's logical and that can be examined in a manner akin to a science, it's a rejection of human taxonomy, and the taxonomy of consciousness & lived experience”.
