desert vampire.
This piece is written as a commentary on the song “Desert Vampire” by Rasputina, which is about Mohammed Bijeh. I am not commenting upon a death directly, I am merely commenting upon a commentary.
"thousands of people." "harder harder." Death in the public square, modern rope. Why does the slow death exist. The finale of the show is the same, but the method is slow, "kill him again", the point of the cruelty is to be a show. The cruelty is a ritual, the community bonding via a stabbing and a public death. The death of the desert vampire does not seem to be about the death of the children. the actual death, the victims melt into set dressing, the main death is the feature film, the killer is main character. The desert vampire told them they were going to hunt animals, the acceptable violence used to be a gateway to the murder and burning of children. The serial killer can be anyone, the death causer is always the one set apart from the group, this set apart element is created after the events, after the reveal that they are the priest of death. The community, an imagined group, a free flowing spider of the conceptual, is responsible for the death, the community does not exist and thus no single person or group or anything can be blamed for the death of desert vampire. The show is something that is considered needed, a community even though it cannot be said to exist, is unable to breathe and live if there is not this communal consumption of death, of violence. The policeman is said to exist to stop violence but he is rather is show master of the execution. The "blue nylon noose" is the ritual object of the perverted ritual, it perhaps will be cut up later, kept like saint bones. The death of the desert vampire can only be seen as a ritual act, an inverted holy act. The end result is the same, but it is vastly different from the vigilante giving death to someone that is known to be a murderer, the point is not the death, of the end act but the point instead is cruelty. A cruelty that brings the people out of their houses, that gives a reason to gather, secular worship. The serial killer goes from actor to prop, inversion of the act. This is a violence that produces no flesh, it merely exists as bond between the human elements, entire communities exist around these public showings, some reaching into the sexual, tearing of the flesh. desert vampire, burnt flesh, blue nylon holding flesh.
